about
Queer alt-pop artist Gretchin (they/them) is set to make their return with feel-good queer love song PETALS ON THE DASH.
A nostalgic, 90s inspired piece of guitar pop, Petals On The Dash is the queer anthem Gretchin needed when they were growing up. They said: “I’m so happy to be using my music to showcase queer joy. I spent such a long time in the closet feeling unsure of myself, that being queer and loud about it feels very freeing.”
Having taken a hiatus from releasing music since 2019, Gretchin showcases a brand new sound on Petals on the Dash – one that is far more playful than their previous releases.
Gretchin explains: “I wrote this song just after I came out as queer, and produced it with my brother Joe in my bedroom. We had never made music together before, so we were just playing around with things. It was a really exciting time for me as I was being my true self for the first time. I really hope that translates to the song!”
Petals On The Dash is written by Gretchin with Joe Hamberger, produced by Joe Hamberger, and mixed and mastered by Brendan Dekora.
lyrics
[Verse 1]
How you doing? It's been years
The trains were delayed all the way here
We were both in hiding back then
And I guess you could say we were friends
But I feel a pull to you
I don't know if you felt it too
But the world is on fire and we're laughing like
We don't have a clue
To tell you the truth
This is the last time you'll see me
Heading nowhere and got lost
[Chorus]
There's petals on the dash
And I'm planning my whole damn life with you darlin'
Don't go slow let's go fast
I'm hypnotised lookin' in your green eyes
Hypnotised lookin' in your green eyes
[Verse 2]
I've been thinkin' bout my dreams
You left me at a party and didn't tell me
I'm always two steps forward and half a heart back
Somewhere in the bathroom having a panic attack
But I've been hoping to find
A little peace of mind
Could you soothe a tired soul
I've been runnin' around with no plans to slow down
But you kinda feel like home
[Chorus]
And there's petals on the dash
And I'm planning my whole damn life with you darlin'
Don't go slow let's go fast
I'm hypnotised lookin' in your green eyes
Hypnotised lookin' in your green eyes
Woo!
[Outro]
